Welcome!

Welcome to Mrs. Carter's home page!

Hello! My name is Kara Carter and I am going to be your child's Language Arts teacher.  I am very excited for what the 2017/2018 school year has in store!!
I am a University of Texas Longhorn and have been married to my Aggie husband, Wesley, for 10 years. We have a seven year old, Kinley, who will be a Second grader at Broadway and a five year old little girl named Kate, who will be a Kindergartner this year!
I have taught 1st and 2nd grade in Round Rock and Longview ISD and was an instructional specialist in Spring ISD.  Overall, this is my 11th year in education. This is my third year at Broadway and I absolutely love it here!

Homework: Read and practice spelling for 20 minutes a night.

Behavior: We use a Class Dojo system. Your child may earn or lose points on the computer, depending on their choices throughout the day.  They can trade their points in for certain rewards.  My goal is to have students want to do the right thing without the reward.  Character Education is very important in my class.  Your child will also be assigned a job each week to help with responsibility.  Your child will also be bringing home a daily folder every night to communicate class behavior for the day. It is our goal that parents sign up to be notified when your child receives or loses points during the day.  We will send that information out on how to sign up for class dojo if you are not already!

Please expect a Take Home folder every Tuesday with important information!

Writing is very important in second grade.  We really want to build writing stamina this year.  If possible, have your child write a story at home whenever possible.  Instead of telling you a story about something that happened at school today, maybe they could write about it, and stretch out the details!!
